People living in western Lithuania are currently facing major flood-related challenges. One of them is flooding of courtyards, basements and ground floors of apartment buildings. When water floods rooms, electrical sockets are also flooded, so it is important for everyone to know what to do in such a situation.
Our colleague, Gintaras Stanišauskas, a building maintenance specialist, says that in such cases, the most important thing is not to use the flooded electrical sockets (sockets, switches), and if possible, disconnect them from the power supply.
Flooded sockets usually dry out within 2 days – do not use flooded sockets during this time, as they may short-circuit when you try to switch on the electricity. Only after the sockets have dried thoroughly can you try to use them to connect appliances to the mains.
