Multi-apartment administrator: we are recording significant storm damage across Lithuania, working at maximum capacity to repair the damage

Civinity Namai, a multi-family housing maintenance and administration company, reports that tonight’s storm caused significant damage to multi-family housing, with the worst hit being those houses with leaking roofs and facades. According to the company’s representative, Deividas Karaliaus, the effects of the storm are being recorded throughout Lithuania and are being dealt with by an increased number of technicians, but it will take some time to repair the damage to the buildings.

Damage to apartment buildings is being recorded throughout Lithuania

Cyclone Kristi’s passage through Lithuania caused damage in all regions. The most damage to apartment blocks was recorded in Vilnius, a little less in Kaunas, and the least affected, according to the administrator, were residents of apartment blocks in Klaipėda.

The Civinity Namai Customer Service Centre is currently recording a doubling of the number of calls from residents.

Residents report electrical faults in their apartments, part or all of the apartment block. Power outages in apartment blocks have resulted in the failure of underground parking gates, entrance barriers, entry systems and lifts.

Residents also report water leaking through leaking roofs, building facade seams and vents, and damage to the apartment or common areas of the apartment block.

The storm also caused a lot of damage to trees in the courtyards of apartment blocks, which are uprooted or broken off.

They are working at maximum capacity, but it will take some time to repair the damage

“According to a representative of Civinity Namai, the administrator is currently working at maximum capacity, with all emergency service teams deployed to deal with the storm, assisted by specialists who carry out regular maintenance work.

At the same time, the administrator warns that, despite the best efforts, the restoration of the damage to the buildings will take some time due to the high number of calls for assistance:

“The situation is unusual, we receive new reports throughout the day and we do our best to respond as quickly as possible, but we cannot be in several places at once. Therefore, we respond to calls based on the severity of the damage, going first to the sites with the most damage,” says Mr Karalius.

Recommends not to leave objects on balconies and terraces

Rain and high winds are forecast to continue today and residents are advised to remain vigilant:

“It is very important that residents do not leave objects on terraces and balconies in apartment blocks. We are observing a situation where umbrellas, boxes, chairs and other objects are being lifted up and carried by the strong, turbulent wind. Such situations are very dangerous, can cause damage to property and to people’s health, and everyone can avoid the risk by simply bringing things indoors,” says Mr Karalius.

It is also advisable to remove plants from terraces and balconies, especially those that are hanging or attached to balconies or window railings.

It is important to close not only the windows and doors of the apartment, but also the stairwells

As the storm continues, it is advisable to make sure that not only the windows and doors in your apartment are tight, but also that the stairwells in the apartment block are not open.

“In case of heavy rain and wind, it is important to close all glazing windows, balcony windows, doors and skylights on roofs. This is especially important not only in the house but also in the stairwells, as wind and rain damage may not be noticed by the residents in time, and the damage to the common areas of the apartment building can be significant,” comments the administrator.
